Gain the confidence to live the career you want.

About Maria José

As a first-generation Latina, I faced unique challenges navigating higher education and entering the professional world. These experiences instilled in me a deep understanding of the importance of self-discovery and navigating personal and professional obstacles, and fueled my passion for guiding others. I am a professional with a deep commitment to empowering individuals in their pursuit of fulfilling careers.

Previously, I gained valuable experience in career development, student success, and counseling roles at institutions such as UCLA, Cal State Dominguez Hills, and Mount Saint Mary's University, Los Angeles. This diverse background provides me with a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities that early-career professionals face in their career journeys.

I am excited to share and document this journey with you, as I want to go beyond my professional roles to empower you to achieve your professional goals with confidence.

CareerConfidence was created with a desire to inspire and empower you to cultivate confidence in all areas of your life, with a particular focus on your career journey. I believe that true confidence isn't prepackaged but developed and strengthened through our experiences, and it can look and feel different for each one of us. And just like each of us is unique, our expressions of confidence are diverse.

I hope this platform serves as a source of authentic inspiration and provides valuable resources to support your career exploration. As your fellow Career Counselor and Societal Educator, I'm committed to creating a positive and impactful experience that empowers you to build and nurture your unique brand of CareerConfidence.

Education

Master of Science, Counseling Psychology

As a full-time graduate student, I had the opportunity to create change in roles within Student and Academic Affairs. I practiced roles such as a Career Advisor, Student Success Coach, Instructional Assistant, Graduate Student Liaison, and Peer Advisor and Mentor.

Bachelor of Arts, Psychology

While completing my undergraduate degree, I had the opportunity to select a specialization. I decided to specialize in the psychology of children and adolescents. Being so, I was trained as a research intern at UCLA to code behavior and language and the very skills I use today in my counseling practice.
